The Holy River, Blog #5

The Holy River

By superhorse4814

Billy, Bonnie, Professor, Drako, and Sabrina flew from Assateague Island over the Atlantic Ocean, across Spain, over the Mediterranean Sea to Turkey. They decided to rest there for the night. The next morning, they flew over Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan into Tibet to the Brahmaputra River. This meant that they had traveled approximately 900 miles in two days.

While they were flying Drako said to the Professor, "Professor, what are the coordinates to Brahmaputra?"
”They are 26°10'40"N 91°41'25"E, Drako."
"Thanks Professor."

When they were almost there, Sabrina asked the professor,

"How did the river get its name?”

"Well Sabrina, the Brahmaputra River was named after the son of Lord Brahma who the Hindus thought was the creator of the universe,” said Professor William.

"Wow, that is very interesting," said Sabrina. “What else do you know about it?”

“According to Hindu myths, it is a very holy river. In fact, every few miles there is a holy site. We should search one of them called the Kamakhya Temple for the ruby.”

When they landed and were right next to the river’s edge in Tibet.

Billy exclaimed, “Wow, this looks like a huge, long river!”

“Yes, Billy, it is one of the largest rivers in Asia. It runs for about 800 miles in Tibet.”

“Are there other countries it goes through?” asked Bonnie.

“It starts in southwestern Tibet, flows across southern Tibet, through the Himalayas, into China, Burma, India, and joins the River Ganges in Bangladesh,” explained the professor.

“How deep is it?” asked Sabrina?

“Well Sabrina, according to my research, the average depth of the river is 124 feet and the maximum depth is 380 feet.”

“That sounds deep, Professor, I guess we will need to be careful.”

“You are absolutely correct, Sabrina. In fact, the Brahmaputra is not a calm river. There are places that are very dangerous. Some of the people who live along the river believe a monster lives in those dangerous patches. Every year boats are overturned or floods swallow up the land.”

“I hope Morgan doesn’t awaken this monster!” said Bonnie.

“I also see a small island out in the river. Do you know its name, Professor?” asked Billy.

“Yes, it is called Umandana. It is one of the smallest river islands in the world. Further down is another island called Majuli, which is the largest river island in the world.”

“Maybe the ruby is on one of the islands,” suggested Drako.

Suddenly, they heard an evil laugh. They realized that Morgan and her Watchers were looking for the ruby across the river at the Kamakhya Temple. They quickly hid behind a huge rock so they would not be discovered.

“Looks like we need to find the ruby before they do,” said Billy.

“But how are we going to do it if they are over there already?” asked Bonnie.

“We will distract them while you fly Billy over to the temple to look for it,” said Drako.

“That is a good plan,” said Professor William.

Drako and Sabrina with the professor on her back flew out from behind the rock over to the temple. The Watchers saw them and streaked out to meet them in the air.

Meanwhile, Bonnie flew Billy over to the temple. They were careful not to let the evil witch, Morgan, see them. While Bonnie began to search for the ruby, Billy yelled to Morgan.

“It is over Morgan. Stop looking for the ruby!”

“Sorry that will not happen, Billy!”

“Then I will have to make you stop!”

“Is that a threat, Billy?!”

“Let’s go!” exclaimed Billy.

Billy pulled out his sword and began fighting with Morgan. As this was happening, Bonnie was desperately looking for the Ruby of Life.

“Its not here, Billy!” screamed Bonnie. “I am flying over to Umandana to look there!”

Morgan and Billy continued to fight while Bonnie searched the island. After a few minutes, Bonnie flew over to tell Billy the ruby was not to be found.

Billy said to Bonnie, “Go search the other island!”

“Okay!”

As Bonnie flew away, Morgan called the Watchers to pursue her. She suddenly disappeared. Billy knew where she was going so he called Drako and Sabrina to come and take him to the large island. When they got there, Morgan had called forth the river monster. This monster was flooding the island and the Watchers had grabbed Bonnie. The dragons began to blow fire at the Watchers and the monster. The Watchers turned to ash and the flood dried up as the monster slipped back beneath the river waters.

Morgan screamed, “I see the ruby! You can’t stop me now!”

As they all looked up into the dense forest surrounding the river, they saw the ruby lying in the crook of a tree.

“Oh no, it is glowing!” screamed Bonnie.

Just as Morgan reached for it, the ruby disappeared. She screamed in fury and disappeared.

“Well, we didn’t get the ruby in time again but neither did Morgan!” said Sabrina.

“Hopefully next time we will arrive before Morgan. Where does your research say the ruby will be next, Professor?” asked Billy.

“According to my calculations, the ruby will appear in the United States.”

“Where in the US?” they all asked.

“It will appear in Arizona,” said Professor William.

“Arizona, that is a big state! Do you know exactly where in Arizona?” asked Bonnie.

“Yes, the Grand Canyon.”

“Oh no, that place is huge!” exclaimed Billy.

“Let’s get going so we can get there before Morgan,” said Drako.

The End
